1) Explain the meaning of the Stephen Biko quote.

2) Compare the Nelson Mandela quote above to the lyrics of Peter Gabriel's song "Biko", You can blow out a candle But you can't blow out a fire Once the flames begin to catch The wind will blow it higher Are these two quotes similar or different in meaning? Explain your answer.

3) What was the name for the South African government policy of segregation? Identify and explain a specific restriction or program that existed under this official policy.

4) Many artists used music to help raise public awareness regarding Apartheid and human rights violations in South Africa. Identify and discuss another economic or political tactic or strategy employed by the international community to apply pressure on the Government of South Africa.

5) Write a meaningful sentence about Apartheid and the people or organizations who struggled against it using each of the following social studies concept words; change, power, justice, empathy, and human rights.
