Interdependence...
"One for All and All for One"

This year we have learned about the importance of teamwork. The Thirteen Colonies would not have been able to win their freedom from England if they did not join forces and fight together for independence. England was the most powerful nation in the world at that time and could easily have defeated the colonies if they had not come together to fight as one. During the Industrial Revolution factory owners had little empathy for their workers faced low wages, long hours and dangerous working environments. When workers came together to form unions they had more power and were able to improve working conditions and bring about important changes such as child labor laws, higher wages and important health and safety benefits.

I have come to appreciate how important it is to get along with other people and work as a team. You can't always do things by yourself and there are many situations in life where you will not be successful if you try to do things by yourself. Our sports teams have been very successful because all the players work well together. I know in the future I will be more successful if I am able to get along with other people. Our Odyssey of the Mind team was successful this year because we solved problems as team. I am an explorer and plan to work for a fire department when I get older. Emergency services people know the importance of working together to help people and save lives including our own. As the saying goes... there is no "I" in team.
