September 11th (Superman) Letter

April, 2002

Dear Engine 7, Ladder 1,

There are many lessons that all of the heroic firefighters, and cameramen have shown and taught on September 11th. You have shown me that you get more attention doing your job and doing it right rather than trying to show off. You have shown fantastic characteristics and heroism that has impacted this nation. Firefighters are amazing people who do outstanding things and on September 11th you went beyond any describing words. At the moment there was sorrow and compassion, but now as a nation we must stand together and fight terrorism.

I saw the documentary 9/11 and many emotions ran through my mind. I saw the smoke, heard the crashes as firefighters rushed toward the flames people ran away. Yet the people that were running away and the firefighters are both human, that is what startles and shocks me. Even after the Towers fell firefighters were the only ones around and are still working.

When I heard that the Twin Towers were attacked on September 11th, I was in math class at about 9:30. I was filled with disbelief and shock. I'm sure you had more complex feelings. When I heard my friends had relatives there, I began to worry. You were at the scene in the building. That is just down right scary. You looked the devil in the eye and put out his flame and conquered fear. That is something not many people do.

Sincerely,
